In a collaborative exhibition with The International Harp Museum, the Polasek Museum will present 50 harps from the IHM’s collection dating from the 18th century to 21st century. Along with American and European instruments, there will also be examples of ancient African, Asian and Egyptian harps, vintage photos, artwork, costumes and jewelry. A “deconstructed harp” display will provide visitors with the opportunity to experience first-hand all the components necessary to construct a harp. This will be an interactive, hands-on installation allowing each person to try playing the harp themselves. Educational programming will include a live concert series featuring performances on historical instruments, classical and jazz music concerts, the IHM’s annual “Spotlight on Youth” scholarship audition, lectures, beginner harp classes and other educational opportunities. In order to enhance the experience, professional local harpists will be periodically providing live music throughout the museum and gardens.
